One important, but easy, aspect of vehicle care is tire maintenance. Keep reading to learn more about tire education here!
There are a few easy steps that drivers can take to inspect their tires and a few easy service options to ensure that their tires wear as evenly as possible:
- Tire pressure: The first step that you can take to ensuring that your tires are operating as efficiently and optimally as possible is to routinely check your tires’ PSI, or tire pressure. Each vehicle’s tires have a recommended PSI and you should do your best to ensure that your tires are filled to that level. That information is located in your vehicle’s owner’s manual or somewhere inside the vehicle, typically on a sticker on the inside of the driver’s door. Proper tire inflation will help your tires wear properly, while under-inflated tires may lead to blow-outs or flats.
- Tire Tread: Another thing to keep an eye on is tire tread. For your vehicle to operate as effectively as possible and for your tires to properly do their job, you need the correct amount of tread depth. You can check this by employing the “Penny Test.” Simply insert the penny into your tire tread, and if you can see any of Honest Abe’s head, it’s time to get your tires inspected.
In addition to checking tire pressure and tire tread depth, we advise you to get routine tire rotations and alignments performed by our team of certified technicians at Fields BMW Northfield!
