Our BMW Service Center wants to let you know that there are a lot of "car maintenance" issues that you can stay on top before they become major problems, including tire maintenance and replacement. There are a number of aspects to tire care and maintenance that you can monitor so you know when it's time to replace your tires. We recommend that you take the time to review your vehicle's owner's manual and review the tire care section. In that section, there will be information regarding how often you need to get your tires rotated, what PSI your tires need to be at, and how often they should be replaced. It's important to note that maintaining the proper PSI is important to ensure that your tires don't wear irregularly or accrue any knots or bumps from improper inflation. Additionally, the air temperature outside affects the PSI. When it is warmer out, your tires will lose inflation, so you'll have to add more air. The opposite is true in cold weather, as the tire pressure will expand, and you may need to release some air so as to avoid over-inflation.

When it comes to tire replacement, it's also important to understand that each tire brand is different, but that both the amount of miles accrued and the length of time they've been in use will affect the performance of the tire. An additional way to know if you need to replace your tire is by checking its tread depth. An easy way to do this is by employing the Penny Test. The Penny Test involves taking a penny and placing it in the tire rib between treads with Lincoln's head facing downward. If his entire head disappears behind the tread, then your tire tread is still good to go. If you can see much or all of his head, it is probably time to get them replaced, and our team is happy to help out!
