The BMW Smart Charging App has the potential to save its drivers hundreds of dollars annually on their electric bills, and BMW is the first automotive manufacturer to offer the automated and integrated functionality. It is currently available to BMW Electronauts, the electric vehicle enthusiasts who leased a BMW ActiveE as part of a field trial when BMW was first introducing the BMW i3. By linking the BMW ConnectedDrive interface through the BMW i Remote App, customers can remotely preset their vehicle’s temperature, see the vehicle status, view actual charging times and costs, and adjust or disable their charging settings remotely.

Jose Guerrero, Product Manager of U.S. Product Planning and Strategy for BMW i, BMW of North America, had this to say about the new app: “By automating the at-home charging planning process with the BMW Smart Charging App, we are offering BMW i customers greater convenience and helping them conserve energy while maximizing their cost savings.”
