Are there multiple trim levels?
Yes! The 2014 BMW X5 traditionally seats five, but a third row can be added to accommodate up to seven passengers. It comes in four trim levels: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, and xDrive50i. The sDrive model is rear-wheel drive, while the xDrive models are all-wheel drive.

What comes under the hood?
The 2014 BMW sDrive35i and xDrive35i come powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower and 300 pound-foot of torque. The 2014 BMW xDrive35d is equipped with a diesel-powered 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that produces 255 horsepower and 413 pound-foot of torque, while the 2014 BMW xDrive50i gets a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that makes 450 horsepower and 479 pound-foot of torque. All engines come paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

How is the fuel economy?
Great! The EPA estimates that the sDrive35i will average 22 mpg combined while the all-wheel drive version will get just slightly less at 21 mpg combined. The V8 engine should get 14/22 mpg, city and highway.

Is it a safe car to drive?
Absolutely! The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has only partially crash tested it, but it received the top score of Good in the IIHS’s moderate overlap front and side crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet crash tested it. It also comes with a slew of standard safety features including all the class standard airbags, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, front disc/rear drum brakes, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, daytime running lights, child safety locks, night vision, blind spot monitor, auto-leveling headlights, and lane departure warning.
