With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just around the corner, Chicagoland is rapidly approaching the busiest travel time of the year! Along with the holidays comes winter, and with winter comes rain, snow, sleet, and ice that you and your vehicle to be ready to handle! Our team here at your BMW dealers near Glenview, Fields BMW Northfield, is ready to help you get yourself and your vehicle ready for what is to come!

First things first, keep an emergency kit inside your car. The number one thing that you can do to combat the cold weather is to be one step ahead of it. You can do this by prepping an emergency kit for your vehicle. In the trunk or back end of your car, you should make sure that you have a spare tire, jumper cables, some extra engine oil, a jug of windshield wiper fluid, an ice scraper, a flashlight and flares, and a first aid kit. It is also smart to keep extra blankets and clothes and non-perishable food items and water in the off-chance that you get stuck or stranded somewhere. If you have the room, a shovel and sand/kitty litter to dig yourself out and provide traction will be helpful as well.

Secondly, you’ll want to prep your car for the impending weather. Check your battery. Ensure that it is juiced enough and know that cold weather can impact it. Also, ensure that your tires have the proper tread and are inflated to the correct PSI. Again, colder temperatures can affect a tire’s PSI. If your tire tread is too low, replace your tires. You’ll also want to check all your hosing and tubing under the hood for cracks or wear and tear as well as check all your fluid levels. If you need replacement hoses or fluids, you can contact our Service Department to help you out. Getting a full tune-up before winter comes is never a bad idea.
