The top 70 players in the world will be competing in this third of four FedExCup playoff events for the chance to earn points to participate in the TOUR Championship held in Atlanta later this fall. This weekend will see all the big names in golf: Jordan Spieth, number one in the world rankings; Zach Johnson, current British Open Champion; and Jason Day, currently in first place in the FedExCup rankings. Thorsten Mattig, BMW Group head of sports marketing and brand cooperation, had this to say about what the tournament means to the BMW brand:
"The BMW Championship is a highlight on the calendar of our global BMW Golfsport involvement. Not only because, as the third of four playoff events, it possesses an extremely high quality of sport. The BMW Championship was the first tournament ever to be crowned ‘Tournament of the Year’ three times in a row by the PGA Tour…We are sure that this year the BMW Championship will once again be one of the most popular tournaments of the PGA TOUR."
At the BMW Championship this year, BMW is offering two impressive Hole-in-One prizes: a BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car for the first hole-in-one on the 11th hole, and the new 2016 BMW 7 Series for the first ace on the 17th hole. In history of the event, only one Hole-in-One car has been won, and it was the last time the event was held at Conway Farms.
