Late last month, BMW announced that it was joining forces with Nissan to offer public DC Fast charging stations at 120 locations across 19 states in order to support electric vehicles (EVs). The EV charging stations will allow BMW i3 drivers more options for charging and will promote increased adoption of electric vehicles nationwide. Keep reading to find out more!
Each new location will offer a dual 50 kW DC Fast-charging station with both CHAdeMO and CCS (Combo) connectors that will serve all EV drivers across the U.S. whose vehicles have quick-charging ports. These 50 kW stations can charge an electric vehicle up to 80 percent in about 20-30 minutes. Drivers of the BMW i3 can easily find chargers with the BMW ConnectedDrive system by using either the in-vehicle Navigation or using the BMW i Remote App.
Cliff Fietzek, Manager Connected eMobility, BMW of North America, had this to say about the partnership and the BMW brand’s continued commitment to EVs and green vehicles:
"BMW continues to pursue new ways to support the development of a robust public charging infrastructure that will benefit current and future BMW i3 owners across the country. This BMW-Nissan project builds on BMW's ongoing commitment to participate in joint partnerships designed to expand DC Fast charging options nationwide for all EV drivers. Together with Nissan, we are focused on facilitating longer distance travel so that even more drivers will choose to experience the convenience of e-mobility for themselves."
Here at your Chicagoland BMW dealers, we were thrilled to learn that one of these fast-charge stations will be available in Illinois. The charging stations will allow drivers to easily extend the length of their travels.
