Last month, it was announced that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety had named the 2016 BMW X1 a “Top Safety Pick+.” The Top Safety Pick+ designation is the IIHS’s highest rating. The honor shows the BMW brand’s long-standing commitment to offering class-leading safety which each new model that comes off of its assembly line. In order to be named a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must earn the top rating of Good in all of five the IIHS’s safety tests: moderate-overlap frontal-offset, small-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, rear crash performance, and roof strength tests. It also must earn an Advanced or Superior rating for its front crash prevention system. The 2016 BMW X1 earned all of these top ratings and comes stocked with impressive safety features and body improvements made to ensure passenger’s safety.

The new body and structure design of the new 2016 BMW X1 crossover SUV boosted its performance in the very tough small-overlap frontal-offset test. The new crossover gained 1.7-inches in height, 0.9 inches in width, and decreased 1.1 inches in length. Its newly available front crash prevention system earned an advanced from the IIHS. The front crash prevention system features a high-level of standard safety feature include BMW Assist eCall, BMW TeleService, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Dry Assist, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control. Optional advanced features include Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning that includes Pedestrian Warning, and City Collision Mitigation.
