The first step to take when it comes to winterizing your vehicle is to bring it down to our BMW service center serving Arlington Heights, IL for a routine inspection and maintenance. Before winter hits, you’ll want to have our certified technicians inspect your engine, tires, and vehicle to ensure that it is in proper working condition. Our team will inspect each of your tires to ensure that they don’t have irregular wear or too much wear and tear. They’ll examine the tread and the rubber to make sure they’ll perform well during the colder months. They will also check out all tubes, hoses, valves, and fluids for wear and tear and to top them off.
It’s important to note that colder temperatures can affect many aspects of your vehicle from its steel frame to the way the engine oil runs through the engine to the pliability and flexibility of the rubber tires. Cold air temperatures also affect the tire pressure. A rule of thumb to follow is that for every ten-degree decrease in air temperature, your tire’s air pressure will drop by 1 PSI. We recommend that throughout the course of the winter months you keep an eye on your tires’ air pressure and check it regularly as improperly inflated tires can wear unevenly and cause issues.
