The four-door 2017 BMW X3 seats up to five passengers and is available in four trim levels: sDrive28i, xDrive28i, xDrive28d, and xDrive35i. The numbers and letters correspond to the engine type, while the “sDrive” and “xDrive” refer to whether the vehicle has rear- or all-wheel drive. The 2017 BMW sDrive28i and xDrive28i are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. In testing the xDrive28i went from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. The xDrive28d gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The 2017 BMW X3 xDrive35i gets a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. All models come paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
In testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, it earned a perfect 5-Star Overall Rating as well as perfect
five-star ratings in frontal crash and side crash ratings. Standard safety
features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control,
automatic brake drying, active front seat head restraints, and several airbags.
