In order to earn the coveted designation of a Top Safety Pick+ model, a vehicle must earn the IIHS’s top rating of Good in each of its crash tests: small-overlap frontal-offset, moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, rear crash performance, and roof strength tests. A vehicle must also earn an Advanced or Superior rating for its crash avoidance and mitigation technologies. For the 2017 model year, the IIHS has instituted its new Headlight test, and a vehicle must earn an Acceptable or Good rating for its headlights.
For the 2017 model year, the 2017 BMW 3 Series sedan underwent a series of adjustments and changes to help improve its small-overlap frontal-offset score, which went a long way towards the sedan earning the top rating of Good in the IIHS’s small-overlap frontal-offset tests. 2017 marks the fourth consecutive year that the 2017 BMW 2 Series was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ designation by the IIHS. Both of these new BMW cars feature a number of high-level standard safety features as well, including BMW Assist eCall, BMW TeleService, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Dry Assist, Dynamic Traction Control, and more!
