Even though our vehicles are built to last, there are simply some auto parts that aren’t. They are purposefully built with a limited lifespan. To help you stay aware of upcoming parts replacements, here are five commonly replaced BMW parts we often see at Fields BMW Northfield.

Filters

There are four main filters in BMW vehicles: oil filters, fuel filters, engine air filters, and cabin air filters. Over time, these filters will become clogged and greatly reduce the efficiency of your vehicle. When this happens, it’s important to replace them.

Battery

On average, car batteries last approximately four to five years. There are lots of outside factors that can drain your battery as well. Exposing your vehicle to extreme temperatures, leaving your interior lights on, or even frequently taking short trips can diminish your battery.

Lightbulbs

It’s important to routinely check your headlights. They are crucial for you to see at night, but they also help others see you. Don’t forget to check your brake lights and turn signals as well.

Tires

Most tires last three to five years. It’s also important to keep an eye on your tires. If they become too worn, you won’t have the traction you need on the road.

Watch for these warning signs it’s time for new tires:

  • The tread is less than 4/32 of an inch
  • The sidewalls are cracked or bulging
  • The pressure is frequently low or falling
  • Your car shakes when you drive

Brake Pads

Typically, experts recommend you replace your brake pads every 10,000 to 20,000 miles. It’s dangerous to drive without a brake pad, so if you notice a grinding or squealing noise or you can see your brake pads are worn, make sure you have them replaced.
